Offer 2 home days each week to decrease staff turnover
Updated: 2 days ago

Hybrid work (some days at home and some days in the office) kept staff, and output did not decrease.
The study. Economists from Stanford and other universities ran a random test at Trip.com in China. The researchers put 1,612 engineers, marketing staff and finance staff into a hybrid group or an office group at random.
The finding. The hybrid group worked from home on Wednesday and Friday. Quit rates decreased by 1/3. Over 2 years, the 2 groups had no difference in performance reviews or promotions.
Why it matters. It is expensive to hire and train new staff. This test shows that hybrid work can keep staff, and output does not decrease. This is also true for office jobs that are not simple call center work.
The takeaway. Offer 2 fixed home days each week for roles that can do focused work at home. Measure turnover (the percentage of staff who leave).
