Make the change that you delay, because people who changed were happier
Updated: 2 days ago

People wait too long before a big change.
The study. Economist Steven Levitt of the University of Chicago asked people who could not make a big decision to flip a coin on a website. Heads told the person to make the change. Tails told the person to keep things the same.
The finding. People who got heads were about 25% more likely to make the change. After 2 months and after 6 months, people who made an important change were happier. An example of an important change is to leave a job.
Why it matters. This study shows that people stay too long in a bad situation. Teams can use this result when a choice is close. They can stop projects, change roles or change direction sooner.
The takeaway. When a decision is close and you continue to delay it, choose the change more often. Set a date to decide.
